Potent thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of a cold front heading from the Northern Plains into the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley. Large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary risks as this activity dives into the central Plains tonight.

Broken lines or clusters of thunderstorms will move northeast out ahead of the cold front in a warm and muggy airmass. The government’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms for eastern Michigan, northwestern Ohio, eastern and southern Indiana as well as extreme northern Kentucky. This area includes the cities of Detroit, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, as well as Columbus and Toledo, Ohio.

The primary risks packed by this dangerous weather will be isolated to scattered damaging wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph and hail larger than golf balls.

The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated radio, water and non-perishable food items should you be without power for long periods of time.
